Old Computers To Blame For Government Inefficiencies, White House Budget Director Says


Wow. Some days are just amazing.



First of all, I work at a multi-hundred billion dollar a year company. My home computers are better than the ones I use at work. So bleeping what?



Second, if the response from this guy is to bring in CEOs from huge organizations like microsquid and Facebook, then you know right away that actual technology problems are NOT going to get solved. Anyone with a brain in an IT environment will tell you how technological acumen plummets the higher up the management chain you go. If they want to get something done, talk to IT managers in mid to small companies. They're not buying the fad nonsense and are making the most of their technology investments.



Third, software is just as big - if not bigger - problem than computer hardware. I can run a lot of useful apps on crummy hardware if I didn't write it sloppily or dependent on massive, inefficient libraries. And it is here where I note the poignant irony of inviting microsoft to this summit meeting.
