Are House Democrats Avoiding an Obama Endorsement Due to Health Care?

This is a well-worn path, my friend. Many books are out on the subject, recent testimony from former health insurance industry executives have laid it out, and similar antics are exercised in other corporate welfare industries.

Here's the process:

1.) Advertise the self-fulfilling prophecy. Foment as much irrational empathy to the insurance companies as possible ("government takeover!" "millions of insurance company employees will lose their jobs!" "costs will skyrocket") using tried and true (and by "true," i mean leverage inaccurate stereotypes, reference bogus "studies," and make up stories that are hard to disprove) straw men. Tell everyone their coverage will go away and that their kids will be systematically sent to meat-packing facilities in order to treat illness because that's what the legislation requires.

2.) Step 1 is public. Step 2 is behind doors with politicians. Do everything you can to prevent the bill from passing.

3.) Hire a town of lawyers to pick over the legislation to find the loopholes. Build a strategy to exploit the loopholes, raise rates, and create a "story" that will put the blame on the legislation. That is, facilitate the self-fulfilling prophecy in such a way that your CEO is unlikely to have to do jail time.

4.) If the bill passes, execute the plan laid out in step 3 and then go to step 5. If the bill doesn't pass, go to step 5.

5.) Roll naked in the cash profits.
