Slaughterhouse '10: The Gutting of State and Local Government

There are larger numbers of people who will oppose a "reparations tax" then you'd expect. Not that they have a single valid argument to support their beliefs, but they exist and you will be hearing from them more and more.

First, take those who are waiting for their lottery windfall. Not literally the gambling kind, but those who naively think they can get rich thru invention, accident, or good old-fashioned hard work. They wanted to be treated like royalty when they prove their awesomeness.

Second are those fundamentalists who have been trained to believe that someone gets rich because they are great people, rewarded by god for their awesomeness. Taxing those blessed people is like stealing from god.

Third are the people who are fundamentalists unsure of exactly why they oppose taxing the rich - they just don't realize that they are actually in the second group.

Fourth are the wannabe economists who believe the wealthiest people are the most important in the world because rich = smart. Smart/Rich people will inflict awesome businesses on us so that we unwashed can find jobs. Lost on these folks is the reality that the economy is a self-created circle with many parts, and no beginning and end - they believe it begins and ends with the Rich/Smart.

Fifth are the insanely rich themselves, of course, and their minions.
