As Republicans Declare War on Bank Customers, A Call to Support Warren

"No one who believes the job of government is "to help families" should be given singular and absolute control over consumer credit."

Since families and citizens - not banks, corporations, or even "the economy" are what is The United States of America, appointing someone with an eye for the fair and equitable treatment of families is exactly what we need more of in government. You are a full 180-degrees from the right approach.

"The job of government is to provide national security and protect property rights and freedom."

So you're arguing that businesses and homes and pensions and income are not property whose rights must be protected from marauding banksters? Not an extremely solid argument.

"The only changes the Republicans are requesting are that there be a committee of 5 in control, that the bureau be subject to appropriations like all the other agencies, and that the bureau have adequate Congressional oversight like every other agency."

Nonsense. They want this position to be like the FCC, SEC, Fed Board, etc. - diluted with hacks who continuously operate in the interest of the wealthy at the expense of the consumer public, with no chance of being publicly exposed. This is one of the many ways the right wing serves their masters.... not that you would want to face the truth.

Your excuses don't cut it.

As Republicans Declare War on Bank Customers, A Call to Support Warren

"Whether or not the president wants this battle, it's on. He can either attack or retreat. There's no third choice."

RJ, there IS a third way and it's exactly the path I expect the President to take.

Don't make a recess appointment. After the recess, run the nomination through it's paces and complain wildly and publicly about the rejection. That morphs into a 2012 re-election centerpiece.... while consumers suffer and bankers continue to rip off the public.

The Opologists will eat it up. And this third way might help him energize more supporters - although it would be a pretty evil trick to pull... and not too transparent to those with open eyes.

How the McEconomy Bombed the American Worker: The Hollowing Out of the Middle Class

I can think of two groups that are stupid enough:

1). Those with enough money to believe that they can own their own army of serf soldiers to protect them when police can no longer be paid for.

2). Those who believe that Jesus will soon be shipping them to an eternal paradise with hot and cold running virgins (wait... do they get the virgins or someone else?... well, no matter... they're all equally sensible). And if Jesus doesn't come, then they'll take jobs protecting the people in group number 1.
